A Movement of Students and Graduates Traveling From Campuses to the Nations

It’s a movement of traveling teams, inspired and sent out by the Holy Spirit. You preach the gospel, pray for the sick, make disciples, build up student churches and start new ones. One month you may be traveling campuses. The next month you might lead a team to backpack the Himalayas. It’s spreading from the campuses to the nations. Yeah, it feels like you’re living the book of Acts. Some think you’re crazy. But it’s your dream. And you’re living this adventure with friends you just might run with for life.

The last few years, numerous students and graduates have sensed Jesus calling us to travel…to go to those who don’t yet know Jesus, demonstrate the kingdom, and gather students together into simple church communities. It’s a call to travel the campuses of the world – then to the ends of the earth wherever Jesus says to go. We sense a burning desire to see the unreached people groups of the earth reached with the gospel – to go to the areas of the world where heavenly sounds of worship to Jesus are yet to be sung in their native tongues.

In 2007, I saw a vision of traveling teams while in a prayer room. I saw a movement of students traveling from campus to campus. I saw the words “Student Church.”  Students across America are stepping out in faith to answer this simple call:

“After graduation, give a year of your life to travel campuses and then to the nations, as Jesus leads.”

The Holy Spirit is our guide. Jesus’ words in Luke 10 are the simple template we follow:

“The harvest is plentiful, the laborers are few. Pray to the Lord of the harvest to send forth laborers into His harvest fields. Now go. I am sending you…”

Those who were sent out in Jesus’ day returned to tell their heroic stories: “Even the demons obey us when we use your name!” To this Jesus said, “Don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”

We are citizens of God’s kingdom. We are children of our Father, accepted, loved, healed and cleansed from sin by the blood of Jesus. We have authority to heal the sick, cast out demons, set captives free, and bring people into a relationship with their Heavenly Father. We don’t go to earn God’s pleasure. We go because He loves them and He is sending us.

As students graduate and answer this call, I am trusting the Lord to instill this value for students around North America:

“Everyone goes, gives, or prays.”

As a student movement, we have the chance to make history. We can see the campuses of the world change. We can see church planting movements started in every unreached people group in our lifetime.

We are responsible for serving the purposes of God in our generation.

You ask, “What is God’s purpose for my life?” Find out what God is doing, and throw your life into it with Him. He wants the nations reached with the gospel. The keys of the kingdom are given to us to unlock the destiny of nations.

It’s gonna happen by resting in prayer, then responding as God moves on our hearts.

It’s gonna happen by you going.

It’s gonna happen by you giving money to send your friends.

“Everyone goes, gives, or prays.”

If you feel a call to travel after graduation (or to take off a year from school to travel), go to your friends, go to those in your student church community. Ask them to support you in a year of travel. Have them lay hands on you and send you out. Ask them, both individually and as a student church community to support you financially.

Myles is a UCLA student. He met Jesus at about age 17 and soon started reaching out to preChristian students at UCLA. Myles has a burning heart to see the nations reached with the gospel. He wants to start microenterprise projects in developing nations to see church planting married with social transformation. After graduating this summer, Myles will spend a year traveling campuses, planting simple churches, and calling students to pray and go to the nations. Myles closest friends have offered to provide his housing in Southern California in between his travel excursions. Others in the Passion Church community are gathering together to send out Myles, Sophie, and Yao to spend a year traveling. This is apostolic ministry – sending out teams to go to those who don’t yet know Jesus and make disciples. When this happens, we call it church planting.

Will you go? Will you give a year of your life to this dream of seeing Jesus glorified on the campuses of North America … then spread to the nations?

I can’t guarantee your success. I can’t even guarantee your safety. But if your heart burns to see Jesus walk the campuses of America and a student movement to spread from campuses to the nations, you have the opportunity of a lifetime to experience Jesus in a way that only happens when you listen to the courageous dreams inside your heart and step out to go.

Everyone goes, gives, or prays! We can do it – let’s reach the world for Jesus!
